$159 Million for Wind Farm in Honduras

The US Ex-Im Bank has approved a $159 million loan to the Honduran wind power company, Energía Eólica de Honduras S.A., to purchase 51 2MW turbines.

The 51 Gamesa G-87 wind energy turbines are for the Cerro de Hula project that seeks to provide 102MW of renewable clean energy.

The project is located 20km south of the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa, in the municipalities of Santa Ana and San Buenaventura. When complete, the wind farm will contribute approximately 6% twoward the country's total energy consumption. It is being developed by Mesoamerica Energy, a division of Globeleq Holdings.

The investment is funded by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank).
